Designcompetition

To enter the Selfmade® Design Competition 2023, you must be attending an official design school - or have graduated from an official design school by 2022.

The design school must be located in either one of the following countries: Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Austria, France, Netherlands, Luxembourg, The UK, Portugal, Spain, Belgium or Italy.

You can enter the competition by submitting your design idea in sketch form with an accompanying mood board and a description of the design idea and yourself. It is optional to present your idea with a video.

In addition, you must provide your full name, address, telephone number and the design school to which you are affiliated.

The address and telephone number information will be used exclusively for personal contact between Selfmade® and you in connection with the competition.

The design school information must be provided as confirmation that you are a design student or have completed a design education in 2022.

Everyone who enters the competition is welcome to pick up fabric samples for their moodboard at a Selfmade® store. Simply ask the shop staff. If you do not live near a physical store, please contact our customer service for more information.

All submitted material will be handled professionally by Selfmade® staff involved in the competition.

All submitted design ideas received by January 22nd, 2023 will be included in the competition.

Our designers will review and evaluate all design ideas submitted. All entrants will be notified by email on February 10th, 2023 whether they have progressed to the next step in the competition. If you are through to the next round, you will be asked to sew/create your design idea using Selfmade® materials.

Everyone who progresses to the 2nd stage of the competition will have the opportunity to purchase materials from a Selfmade® store (or via customer service in their country) worth 135 € (115 £). Shops/customer services will receive a list of participants' names. You must inform the shop/customer service that these are materials to be used in the design competition.

Selfmade® must receive your stitched design idea by March 20th, 2023. You can send it to or deliver it to Selfmade's head office in Denmark:

It is also possible to hand in your design in one of our physical stores.

By entering the competition, you agree that Selfmade® may keep your finished design idea until the winner of the competition is found. Selfmade® will ensure that the design is returned to you unless a future collaboration or other arrangement is agreed.

You also agree that your design and your submitted images of the design may be displayed on Selfmade's website, Facebook page, Instagram profile, TikTok profile, LinkedIn profile and in the company's idea books and stores. However, your name will always be mentioned/shown in connection with the design, just as your Instagram handle may also be mentioned and tagged.

From the submitted designs, a panel of judges consisting of designers, pattern makers and representatives from retail will select three finalists on March 24th, 2023. The finalists will each participate in an online meeting on March 31st, 2023, where they will present the story behind their design idea and introduce themselves.

Based on the online submissions, the judging panel will hold a vote, which will account for 50% of the competition score. The other half of the score is determined by an online vote among Selfmade's customers. All three finalists will be contacted on April 5th, 2023, when the winner of the design competition will be crowned.

The winner of the design competition will receive 13.500 € (11,500 £) and have their submitted design developed into a sewing pattern in collaboration with Selfmade's designers and pattern makers. The collaboration will be established when the winner visits Selfmade's headquarters in Denmark. The final sewing pattern will bear the winner's name and will be sold in Selfmade's webshop and stores.

The winner is responsible for declaring the prize of 13.500 € (11,500 £) to the tax authorities in the country concerned. Selfmade® has the rights to the sewing pattern, hence also the sale of it.
