Different kinds of needles for your sewing machine and how to use them

Universal needle

A standard needle that can be used with both a regular sewing machine and an overlock sewing machine. This needle is used for all woven fabrics.


Stretch ballpoint needle

A jersey needle with a rounded tip that allows the needle to gently pass through the fabric without piercing it. Can be used with elasticated fabrics such as Dorlastan and Lycra. Can be used with both a regular sewing machine and an overlock sewing machine.


Stretch needle

A standard jersey needle that can be used with both a regular sewing machine and an overlock sewing machine. Recommended for most knit and elasticated fabrics.


Denim needle

Used for tough, tightly woven materials such as denim, canvas, awning fabric, etc.

 

Leather needle

The leather needle has a sharp cutting tip and is recommended for leather, hide and artificial leather.


Twin needle

Universal twin needle with a needle spacing of 2.5 or 3 mm. Used for stitching parallel rows, tucks, and decorative stitching.


Stretch twin needle

Stretch twin needle with a needle spacing of 4 mm. Suitable for visible hems and parallel rows in stretch fabrics.


Embroidery needle

Used for embroidery stitching.
