Choose the Right Fabric
The choice of fabric has a big impact on both the look and comfort of your garment. You can sew this dress or top in both woven and lightweight stretch fabrics – and get very different results depending on your choice.
- Cotton poplin: A light and smooth fabric that’s easy to work with and holds its shape well. Perfect for a more classic version of the dress and ideal for beginners.
- Seersucker: A crinkled, textured cotton with a relaxed, summery feel. Requires minimal ironing and adds subtle dimension to the simple silhouette.
- Linen: A natural and breathable material that works beautifully with the minimalist design. Lightweight linen drapes well and creates a clean, relaxed look. Be sure to prewash it, as linen may shrink and soften with use.
- Muslin (double gauze): A soft and airy double-woven cotton that gives the dress a light, casual look. Perfect for warm days and especially gentle on the skin.
- Viscose: Fabrics with a soft drape and more movement. Great for a more elegant feel but require a bit more sewing experience, as they can be slippery to handle.
- Jersey: For a more casual and comfortable version, you can use a lightweight jersey. It offers stretch and flexibility but may require slight technique adjustments.
