Sew a classic sleeveless top
A sleeveless top is a timeless classic that never goes out of style!
It is comfortable to wear and works equally well for everyday wear and special occasions, depending on your choice of fabric – and how you style it. Wear it under a cardigan or blazer, as a camisole under light, sheer tunics, or as a stylish top with trousers, shorts or a skirt.
With this pattern, you can create a lovely top with a regular fit and bust darts for an optimal fit. The pattern is designed so you can choose from all sizes between 34 and 54. Choose between three different necklines: a deeper round neckline, a classic V-neck or a small round neckline with a button fastening at the back.
Fabric
We recommend making this top in lightweight fabrics with a beautiful drape. Our favourites are:
- Viscose – soft, lightweight and comfortable to wear, and available in beautiful colours and prints.
- Silk – a wonderfully luxurious fabric to wear with an elegant drape.
- Lightweight linen – a natural choice that gives the top a light and summery look.
- Lightweight cotton – a classic that always works. Cotton is also available in a wide range of beautiful colours and patterns.
- Party satin – elegant, luxurious and perfect when you want to wear the top for a special occasion.
The top also works really well in sheer fabrics, as it can be made with a lining.
This pattern is designed for woven fabrics. You can also use fabric with stretch for a more relaxed look.
Material consumption
For versions A and C, simply choose your favourite fabric for the top. If you choose a sheer fabric, you will also need lining. You can also use the same fabric for both the outer fabric and lining.
Find the consumption in the table under the images in the left menu on the page.
The fabric requirements are calculated based on a fabric width of 130 cm.
When we calculate the material consumption, we always place the pattern parts so that they face the same way on the fabric to take into account pile direction, pattern reports, etc. Also remember that the recommended length depends on the width of the chosen fabric.
Fit & style
Sleeveless top with a regular fit in sizes 34–54 and bust darts. Choose between a round neckline, V-neck or small round neckline with a button fastening at the back.
Sewing techniques
On version A, the neckline and armholes are finished with internal binding.
Version B is fully lined. The technique is explained in detail in the sewing instructions.
Version C has facings around the neckline and armholes and a small slit at the centre back, fastened with a rouleau loop and button.
