When mixing textiles, a few simple principles can help you create a harmonious look.

#1 Odd numbers
When combining different elements, such as cushions, odd numbers usually work best. They feel more natural to the eye and create a more lively look.

#2 Repeat colours
When pairing a multicoloured pattern with other fabrics, choose 2 to 3 colours and repeat them in the other textiles. This can be done with plain fabrics, stripes or small patterns.

When putting colours together, think in terms of 70/20/10. Let one colour dominate, another support it and use the last as a small contrast.

#3 Balance patterns
Combine one large, eye catching print with smaller, more subtle patterns in the same colour tones. For example stripes, dots or plain fabrics.
