Ready to Sew? Here's What You'll Need
The right choice of materials makes all the difference when sewing a toiletry bag that is both beautiful and functional. Here are our recommendations for what you’ll need – and what to consider when selecting your fabrics.
Outer Fabric
You can sew your toiletry bag from almost any type of tightly woven fabric. Just bear in mind that the thicker the fabric, the harder it may be to sew small parts – experiment and see what works for you! You could choose, for example:
- Canvas – durable and easy to sew
- Denim – gives a classic and slightly rugged look
- Gobelin – perfect for a personal and patterned appearance
- Corduroy – soft and elegant with texture
Lining
For the lining, a water-resistant fabric like rainwear fabric, oilcloth or Dralon® is an ideal choice if the bag will contain toiletries. These materials can easily be wiped clean if there are any spills or leaks! Alternatively, you can use cotton canvas, woven cotton or a patchwork fabric with lovely prints and colours.
Also remember to use bag interfacing so your toiletry bag remains stable and holds its shape, as well as a closed-end zip and sewing thread.
