Linen and linen/cotton mix work well for napkins, as the fabric is very absorbent. But 100% cotton or linen will also work well. 


The same fabrics are recommended for placemats, as these natural fibres can withstand the heat of a hot dinner plate.

Allow the fabric for your napkins to soak in cold water for 24 hours before machine washing it. This makes your material even more absorbent.
