Tablesetting

Do you love a pretty table setting? Then, add the finishing touch with cloth napkins and placemats!

Placemats are back in vogue.

While the word placement may bring forth memories of tacky vinyl and printed plastics, the 2023 version of this table-scaping feature is quite another ballgame. Cloth placemats sewn in beautiful cotton or linen elevate your table setting to luxurious heights. And it's a lovely sewing project that doesn't take too much time.

Homemade cloth napkins

Homemade cloth napkins make your dining table look adorable! And so much more upscale than single-use paper napkins. DIY cloth napkins are pretty straightforward to make — a simple sewing project for beginners. Plus, you'll get napkins that match the exact colour or style you've been looking for. Here, you'll find the best absorbing fabrics for your project.

Linen and linen/cotton mix work well for napkins, as the fabric is very absorbent. But 100% cotton or linen will also work well.

The same fabrics are recommended for placemats, as these natural fibres can withstand the heat of a hot dinner plate.

Pro-tip for cloth napkins

Allow the fabric for your napkins to soak in cold water for 24 hours before machine washing it. This makes your material even more absorbent.
